NFL Stadium Weather

A wind direction on its own tells you nothing. The same north wind runs straight down the field at Lambeau and straight across it at a stadium built east to west. These pages resolve the forecast against the way each field actually points.

Why the field’s bearing is the whole story

Wind does two different things to a football, and which one it does depends entirely on how the stadium is aligned. Wind running along the field lengthens kicks toward one end zone and shortens them toward the other, which is what teams are choosing between at the coin toss. Wind running across the field pushes every kick sideways no matter which way you are going, and it is the harder of the two to kick in.

A field has two ends and no centre, so only the axis matters — not which end zone is which. Orientation is measured from the mapped outline of each field rather than assumed.
